The flora of the Pyrénées-Orientales is exceptionally rich, shaped by the meeting of Mediterranean and mountain influences. In just a few kilometers, the landscapes evolve from the coast to the Pyrenean peaks, offering a great diversity of natural environments.
The local vegetation is typical of the Mediterranean climate:
Garrigue : thyme, rosemary, rockrose, wild lavender
Coastal areas : glasswort, marram grass, dune plants
Mountain ranges : beech, pine, holm oak, endemic plants of the Canigou
These plants play an important role in biodiversity and some are protected.
