The Castillet, a former city gate classified as a Historic Monument since 1889, is today the symbol of the City of Perpignan. Today visitable, this "little castle" has undergone several architectural modifications during its history. Built in 1368, under the reign of Pierre IV of Aragon, it is entirely built in cairons, red bricks made in Roussillon. This building plays a unifying role for the people of Perpignan, since it preserves the flame of Saint John and serves as a gathering place during all major events. The dungeon, accessible by climbing the 142 steps in the building, offers visitors a spectacular view of the city of Perpignan and the Canigou. On the second floor of the Castillet, visitors will be able to discover an exhibition devoted to the history of Castillet produced from the collections of the Casa Pairal.
